2017’ers,

I hope you are getting into your classes and the rhythm of the semester—and are enjoying being a senior!  

With drop/add over, CHECK YOUR CREDIT ANALYSIS to make sure you are all set to meet degree requirements by the end of the spring semester so that you can walk in the ceremony and graduate on May 28!!! 

Update Your Major Certification Form (MCF)

December Completions should submit a completed form by September 30; May Completions should do so early in the spring semester.  This tool both tracks your progress in the major and is used by your department to confirm that you have completed major requirements. 

 Grading Option/Schedule Confirmation Deadline

September 30 is the deadline for choosing a grading mode for courses that offer the option.  It is also the deadline for confirming the accuracy of your schedule so be sure to check!

Thesis & Essay Writers

The library is offering workshops on research sources and interlibrary loan and other services for seniors writing a thesis or an essay. Sessions will be offered on Mon. 9/26, Tues. 9/27, Wed. 9/28, and Thurs. 9/29 at 11 a.m, 1 p.m and 3 p.m. each day. No need to sign up ahead of time. Choose a date and time convenient for you and join a group for a 45-minute info session at Olin Library’s Reference Office. Attendees will be granted expanded interlibrary loan privileges. Contact Kendall Hobbs, Reference Librarian, at khobbs@wesleyan.edu with questions.  

Work at Homecoming and Family Weekends
This year’s Homecoming (Oct.21-22) and Family Weekends (Oct. 28-30) are fast approaching, and we need student employees! Aside from getting paid, you’ll also have the unique opportunity to help out with one of Wesleyan’s most important events, make lasting connections with alumni, and represent the student body to hundreds of visitors and guests.  Leadership Intern The Leadership Intern helps to support SALD’s mission to foster and encourage leadership skill development among student leaders. In working to achieve this goal the Intern collaborates with student organizations and other involved leaders on campus to conduct programs and trainings, facilitate dialogues, create resources, and seeks feedback from current students.

Queer Community Intern The Queer Community Intern is responsible for being a resource for and maintaining communication with the various LGBTQQ organizations and groups on campus, as well as with LGBTQQ allies among alumni, faculty, and administration. The intern also maintains the Queer Resource Center and organizes monthly Queer Community Meetings and other campus-wide social and educational programs. The intern typically has an interest in multi-political organizing–recognizing the complex interconnections among issues of sexual orientation, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, ableism, etc., aiming to build bridges between the various multicultural communities on campus. The QC Intern is a member of the Student Affairs Intern Team.

Student of Color Coalition Intern The SCC Intern provides peer assistance and support to Wesleyan’s various multicultural/ethnic organizations. In particular, the Intern offers advocacy and support to student organizations and works to build bridges between different identity groups. The Intern also co-chairs the Student of Color Coalition (SCC), a group intended to bring together different student leaders of color in one space to share resources and promote dialogue. The SCC Intern is a member of the Student Affairs Intern Team.

Reunion and Commencement Weekend 2016 is fast approaching (May 19-May 22), and we need student employees! Aside from getting paid, you’ll also have the unique opportunity to help out with one of Wesleyan’s biggest events, network and make lasting connections with alumni, and represent the student body to hundreds of visitors and guests. Potential jobs include working at the Registration site, being a Camp Cardinal Counselor, escorting guests around campus in shuttle vans, and much more!

Summer Staff Position in the Admission Office — App due April 1

Come join the Summer Admission Team! The position is multifaceted, so you will assume several responsibilities, including but not limited to leading multiple tours for campus visitors on a daily basis; answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting with general questions; assisting with data entry; helping Admission staff members and deans with miscellaneous tasks and projects; and much more!  We are looking for energetic, courteous, and professional individuals who enjoy interacting with students, parents, and staff.  The position is for the entire summer, although there are different start dates available.  This is a full-time job (7 hours per day) with some weekend commitments sprinkled throughout the summer.  Students will be paid $10.00 per hour and will be compensated for 50% of university housing.  If you have questions about the position, e-mail Laura McQueeney, Front Office Manager, at lmcqueeney@wesleyan.edu.  The application is due April 1 and available here: http://goo.gl/forms/eaS8sStBUA.

Academic Peer Advisor and NSO Peer Advisor Apps due March 28!

Academic Peer Advisors

The Deans’ Office is looking for talented and motivated students to become Academic Peer Advisors for the 2016-2017 academic year. Academic Peer Advisors are juniors and seniors who work during New Student Orientation (NSO) and throughout the academic year to support Wesleyan’s faculty advising program and enhance student access to academic resources. Academic Peer Advisors will receive training, give individualized peer advice and facilitate workshops for groups of students regarding metacognitive learning strategies, time management, public speaking, study and exam preparation strategies. Be a Senior Interviewer!! — Info Session 2/17; App due 2/29

The Office of Admission is beginning the hiring process for the 2016-2017 Senior Interviewer position.  As many of you are aware, this position would allow you to leave your legacy at Wesleyan and help shape the Class of 2021. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing prospective students in the summer and/or fall
  • Co-leading information sessions with Admission Deans to prospective students and families
  • Representing the Office of Admission and Wesleyan at various on-campus events
  • Other office tasks as needed such as data entry and answering phone calls/emails

We are also pleased to announce a new opportunity to join us in the summer of 2016 as a Senior Admission Intern. This position will offer the opportunity for rising seniors to engage not only in the regular functions of the senior interviewer position, but also to spend the summer learning about specific admission programs, such as campus events, international admission, athletics, communications, transfer students, tour guides, senior interviewers, and others, and the admission profession and higher education as a whole. You must commit to the summer internship AND the fall position if you are interested in the summer.

We will have two open information sessions on Wednesday, February 17, from 12-1pm and 4pm-5pm, where we will go over details of the position and answer questions. Current Senior Interviewers will speak about their own experiences and be there to answer your questions.  Both meetings will be held at the Office of Admission. These information sessions are not required and you do not have to attend the entire session, but if you are unable to attend and have any questions, please ask any current Senior Interviewer (http://www.wesleyan.edu/admission/ask_a_question/seniors/index.html) or contact Tara Lindros, Associate Dean of Admission, at tlindros@wesleyan.edu. Please note that the application deadlines for students on campus and for those studying abroad in the spring is Monday, February 29, 2016. Those on-campus candidates we would like to invite to participate in the first round of group interviews, during the lunch hours of the week of March 28 – April 1, will be notified by email by Friday, March 3. Candidates currently studying abroad will be invited for virtual interviews beginning Monday, March 7.
