Fixations: Art Exhibit/Reception with Prof. Julia Randall — Fri., March 28 5-7 p.m.

Julia Randall

OPENING RECEPTION

 Friday, March 28, 5 to 7 pm

Gallery talk by Julia Randall at 5:30 pm

From hybrid lovebirds to disembodied mouths and monumental bubblegum, the subjects of Julia Randall’s drawings seduce the viewer.

The title of this retrospective exhibition nods towards Sigmund Freud’s theory of oral-stage fixation, but Randall’s often monumental

drawings go beyond psychoanalysis, presenting surreal, sensual, even visceral images, while surprising with a sense of humor.

New CSPL Cluster Initiative for Fall 2014 on Centralization/Decentralization — Apps due April 7

New Academic Opportunity in 2014-15 for rising seniors, juniors, and sophomores!

The Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life invites applications from students in all majors for a new program to begin in Fall 2014 that will engage twenty students in a Cluster of three one-credit courses, a year-long collaborative research project, and a range of associated lectures and academic and social activities throughout the academic year.

Professors Richard Adelstein and John Finn, both acclaimed scholars and past winners of the Binswanger Teaching Prize, will be running this first Cluster.

This first Cluster is organized around the theme of centralization anddecentralization in both economic and political life. This is an issue of special salience in the twenty-first century, as citizens in the U.S., the former Soviet Union, the European Union and emerging nations elsewhere debate the proper relation between local and central governments in a range of political and economic contexts.

For more details on the cluster and how to apply, see:  http://www.wesleyan.edu/allbritton/Collaborative_cluster_initiative.html

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:  Student Manager Intern, Usdan University Center
JOB SUMMARY
Students are given the opportunity to work in different areas and aspects of the operation of the University Center. We look at work at the Usdan University Center not as a typical “work study” job but an additional learning experience outside of the classroom. It is important to us that we stress to our students that if they are not willing to be part of a dynamic learning environment where they will be asked to actively think, then this is not the right place for them. Each job provides the student with the ability to grow personally and laterally in their position based on their commitment and performance. Students will develop several different skills sets that can easily be applied or adapted to any chosen profession upon graduation.
The Student Manager Intern is responsible for the general supervision of Usdan University Center / Fayerwether facilities.  The Student Manager Intern is responsible for hosting organizations that sponsor events and meetings in the University Center.  This person shall have working knowledge of and enforce all Usdan University Center, and Wesleyan University, policies and procedures.
