One (1) position for membership on the Sustainability, Finance, and Facilities Committee. This position includes full voting membership on the WSA.

Composed of seven members, the Sustainability, Finance and Facilities Committee (SuFFaC) is responsible for monitoring and recommending changes to Wesleyan’s facilities and finances. SuFFaC members also influence decisions regarding sustainability, the Freeman Athletic Center, and Financial Aid at Wesleyan.

One (1) position for membership on the Student Affairs Committee.

This position includes full voting membership on the WSA.

Composed of seven students, the Student Affairs Committee works with members of the administration to help set policy and make other important decisions to improve student life on campus across a wide range of student life issues at Wes. The broad focus of the SAC includes issues of residential life, public safety, student health and services, alcohol and other drugs, fire safety, relations with the Student Judicial Board, and general campus climate. Each SAC member sits on a variety of sub-committees with administrators, faculty, and other students. The SAC serves an important role on the Student Life Committee and the Undergraduate Residential Life Committee, both critical policy-making bodies.

Five (5) general positions and one (1) chair position available on the Committee for Inclusion and Diversity.

The Committee for Inclusion and Diversity (CID) aims to increase productive dialogue within the student body about issues of diversity and inclusion as well as to take action to cultivate a Wesleyan community that is more inclusive to all students, regardless of race, class, gender, ethnicity, disability, etc. It will focus on bringing together the campus as a whole and promote inclusion through diversity throughout campus through discussion, administrative outreach, and campaigns designed to make individual constituency groups feel more included in the broader campus dialogue. CID had a successful start last year, and looks to expand collaboration with student groups and other members of our community.

Four (4) general positions and (1) chair position available on the Middletown Relations Committee.

On both individual and community levels, MidWes aims to promote meaningful interactions between Middletown and Wesleyan through a long-lasting, student-based institutional body. Since its founding, the committee has met with numerous members of university and Middletown leadership to discuss, initiate and incentivize more interactions between members of both town and university so as to strengthen ties between both communities. In particular, the subcommittee believes a stronger relationship between Wesleyan and Middletown can be achieved primarily through increasing / facilitating personal and ongoing interactions between members of the university and the town. Furthermore, the committee strongly believes that such efforts must be done in a collaborative and, more importantly, a mutually beneficial manner. Lastly, these efforts must be done with an understanding of the history and present situation of Wesleyan-Middletown relationships.

VOTE in WSA Elections! Deadline is 11:59 tonight!

thumbnailDear students,

Elections for WSA President, WSA Vice President, and Senior Class Officers will close today, Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:59:59PM.  Please vote immediately at wsa.wesleyan.edu/voting if you have not already done so.

The winners of these elections will claim to represent the interests of the Wesleyan student body or a significant segment of it, whether or not you vote.  Therefore, it is crucial that you vote so that your voice accounted for. Administrators, outsiders, and fellow students will take the words of these students to represent the views of the student body as a whole.  These representatives will have critical direct and indirect input on everything from the handling of the sexual assault issue to need-blind admissions to SBC allocations.  If you care about pretty much any student issue, you should vote.

Please note that you can vote in these elections even if you are studying abroad or a current senior (Class of 2014).

Have a wonderful weekend,
Elections Committee for Presidential and Senior Class Officer Elections

P.S.  Want to have direct input on these issues yourself? Join the WSA.  Petitions for the Spring At Large Election will go out on Monday. Look out for an email for more information!

Join the Spring Fling Committee! App deadline 9/6

Dear Students,

Want to help plan Spring Fling, book artists, and have unadulterated access to the most top-secret listserv on campus? You’re interested in Spring Fling Committee (the artist formerly known as Social Committee). We are not the Concert Committee (they allocate money, we plan Spring Fling).

Spring Fling Committee remains a committee unlike any other, which happens to plan and execute one of the biggest campus events of the year and funding thereof. Its application process is open to the entire student body; its selection process based on your application, experience, merit and an interview. Those unhappy with the Spring Fling booking process would do well to take note: here’s your opportunity to get involved.

Spring Fling is an all-campus outdoor concert that happens on Foss kendricklamar2Hill when it’s sunny and in the Hockey Rink when it’s not, every May. In the past, artists like Chairlift, Kendrick Lamar, Big Boi and TV on the Radio have come to rock out with Wesleyan’s student body. Spring Fling Committee works throughout the year to put together a multiple-act show that brings diverse, current and enjoyable bands to campus in an effort to celebrate the end of the year with the entire student body.

If you would like to become a member of Spring Fling Committee in the 2013-2014 school year, please answer the questions in the attached application (either in an email or an attached word document) and send them to Elisa Cardona(ecardona@wesleyan.edu)by 5pm on Monday, September 9th. We will review the applications and contact applicants for interviews. The committee meets once a week according to member availability. Download the application here.
